Crofting for the Future - Biodiversity Audits
Biodiversity Audits - How to complete your own for the Whole Farm Plan
What is a biodiversity audit?
Do I have to complete one?
Are there any benefits for my croft?
How can I complete one without paying a consultant?
If you submit a SAF (Single Application Form) every year and claim Basic Payment you will probably by now have heard about the Whole Farm Plan.
The biodiversity audit is one of the plans that will be required by all crofters claiming Basic Payment - and other grants, such as FFIS (Future Farming Investment Scheme). In the future, it may be needed for applying for other grants, even CAGS.
This session will be an opportunity for you to find out from other crofters how they completed their biodiversity audits without needing to pay anyone to do it for them!
You will find out about the biodiversity audit and how it fits in with the Whole Farm Plan requirements
NatureScot will be there to demonstrate their Farm Biodiversity Scotland tool and we will have crofters present who can tell us their experience of using it.
You will also hear from crofters Neil Maclean and Chris Arthur about other methods they have used for completing the Biodiversity Audit - including using crayons and paper maps!
There will be plenty of time to ask your burning questions.
Spaces for this event are limited to give more time for everyone's questions to be answered, so please book early!
Ticket prices:- £5 for SCF members; £15 for non-members.

Tweed Feast
A community celebration of locally grown and produced food
Tweed Feast | Part 2 | The Borders Diet
After the success of the first Tweed Feast last August we are excited to gather again March 1st, this time to deepen the conversation around local food producers and instigate a 'Borders Diet' experiment later in the year.
The aim of this afternoon is to celebrate and highlight the food we already have available in the Tweed Valley, share it together in community, and ignite conversation around future possibilities. All are welcome, from local food producers, to passionate veg growers, and anyone who is interested in local food!
Please bring a homemade dish to share, so we create a feast together. Try to use predominantly home grown or locally sourced food/ingredients (so we can all see what we actually have available). Make sure to label your dish with it's ingredients and any potential allergens. BYOB, crockery provided, hob available to heat up food.
As well as feasting, there will be talks from Elly Kinross (Fife Diet) and Fi Martynogya (writer, gardener, environmentalist) - sharing examples and inspiration about the power of eating locally produced food. With time for Q&A as well as focussed discussions to gather ideas with fellow feasters.
All welcome, by donation on the door - but make sure to book your ticket on Eventbrite to reserve your seat. ** Suggested donation £5 - Please bring cash **
We hope that this event can grow year on year and encourage us to further celebrate the locally grown food of the Tweed Valley. Inspiring an increase in the amount of food and variety available for all!
