Climate Change Health Impacts: Scottish Borders Report
Climate change describes long-term alterations to weather patterns and temperatures. This is not a new concept, and has been occurring for millions of years due to natural events.
There are still opportunities to act to mitigate or adapt to the predicted impacts that climate change will bring. If these are carefully managed and considered, they can present co-benefits for health as well as climate
Dr Lisa Adams is a Specialist Registrar in Public Health and wrote the Climate Change Health Impacts Report for the Scottish Borders.
The report aims to provide a local picture of the expected impacts on health and provide an evidence base to support opportunities to bring health into ongoing conversations about climate.
It covers:
•The changing climate
•Expected events
•Consequences of expected events
•Health impacts
•Areas and people most at risk
•Next steps
