Active TRavel

SBCAN champions active travel across the Scottish Borders as a key part of community climate action. We co-host an Active Travel Forum to bring people together, share ideas, and support projects that make active travel, easier, and more accessible for all.

💡 What SBCAN Offer

  • Local advice & signposting for communities and projects: We can connect you with organisations and resources that support safer and more accessible active travel in the Scottish Borders.

  • Workshops & events: We co-host Active Travel Forum meetings quarterly and are open to doing community events. Interested in getting involved with the forum or co-hosting an active travel event with us? Get in touch! sbcan@sup.org.uk

  • Access to funding: We can help signpost community groups to apply for funding to support active travel initiatives. Contact us at sbcan@sup.org.uk.

The scottish borders Active Travel links Forum

  • The Active Travel Links (ATL) is a new voluntary forum set up in partnership by SBCAN and Hike & Bike for members of statutory, community and business organisations who are interested in working collaboratively to improve the active travel options and network for locals and visitors in the Scottish Borders. It is intended to play a key role in shaping and informing active travel policy and logistics by leveraging the expertise, insights and collective voice of all members. The ATL will be solutions-focused and not just highlight what isn’t working in policy and will prioritise practical, real-world policy implementation in local communities.

The ATL is an ongoing forum, which met for the first time on the 29th August 2024. We aim to meet in-person 3-4 times a year, with flexible online meetings as required if specific actions arise requiring more regular discussion. The forum will serve as a platform for stakeholders to discuss active travel awareness, funding and infrastructure. We are engaging Scottish Borders Council in these discussions to get their support and knowledge to elevate the forum. The coming together of key partners in active travel is helping to build capacity in this area and equip groups with tools to promote and improve active travel.

  • We will update this section with the latest minutes from the forum

  • If your organisation would like to join the forum then please get in touch with us at sbcan@sup.org.uk and we can go from there.
