YouthBorders: Youth Climate Action AWard

On June 10th, Ayliffe from the SBCAN team attended the first YouthBorders LEAD Awards Celebration of Youth work

The awards celebrate the wonderful variety of Youth work and projects across the Scottish

SBCAN, supported the development of the Youth Climate Action Award and we would like to congratulated the winner Connect Berwickshire Youth Project and runner up LGBT Youth Scotland.

Connect won the award for the sustainable and environmentally focused renovation of their Eyemouth Youth Space, funded by the Local Action Group and developed with the young people they support as part of the core values of connect.

“When I first came to Connect, I didn’t really think about things like climate change or energy bills. But being here has changed how I see all that. We talked about where electricity comes from and how to make better choices with food and waste. I helped choose some of the stuff for the kitchen and found out it was all recycled or second hand. That actually made me feel proud. It makes you realise you don’t have to do big dramatic things to help. Small choices matter and we’re learning how to make them together.” Young attendee of Connect.

The runners up LGBT Youth Scotland ran a 4-week project focusing on Red Squirrel Conservation, to enable young people to construct and install squirrel feeders, and carry out red squirrel tracking and conservation activities, raising levels of knowledge and engaging young people in conservation in general.

Well done to everyone involved, it's fantastic to be celebrating the inspiring Youth Climate Action happening across the Borders.
