Tweeddale Youth visit Glenlude
On Thursday, alongside the help of the wonderful Rachel from the Peebles community garden, our young people took part in a garden clean up project at the Peebles youth club. The young people helped with weeding our herb garden and clearing out the garden planters for them to be ready to use next spring, we also tackled the the huge bramble bush that was taking over the garden fence! Rachel was able to teach our young people a lot about the garden, including which plants would reflower next year and what specific plants/weeds were and how garden waste can be refused to create compost. After all the young people's hard work in the morning we had some burgers made by youth worker Alex with the help of our young people and local community police officer, Viv Carsley, conducted a workshop around vandalism and the importance of protecting our community.
On Friday, we took some young people up to Glenlude, where we met Ellie who took us up the hill to do some tree planting. Ellie taught the young people how to plant trees and together we planted 50 birch and oak trees! Ellie was fantastic with the young people and gave them a great chat about the local wildlife, local plants and trees, and the importance of replanting native species of trees in the area to help conservation efforts. The young people really enjoyed this experience and we hope we will be able to visit Glenlude again next year to work with Ellie with more young people!
