Young Rewilder’s Forum
On Friday 30th May the Bright Green Nature- Young Rewilders Forum came together at Old Melrose, for their first in-person meeting.
Ayliffe from the SBCAN team was there to support the session. Following a short ice-breaker, we went down to the riverside to do a POM’s (UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme) FIT (Flower-Insect Timed) Count. We each selected a 50 × 50 cm patch of a particular flower and spent 10 minutes recording all the insects that landed. We identified the insects into their broad groups; bumblebees, hoverflies etc. The results will now be sent away to be added to the data collected by POMs which is used to monitor trends in pollinator populations and target conservation efforts.
The group then made it’s way back to the Tweed Forum for some cake & discussion time, including ideas for the Youth Climate Action Fund, training and future sessions which will include a visit to Glenlude, John Muir Estate.
