Climate in Place : Jedburgh
Last week we met with Jedburgh's Place team, at their monthly meeting, to think about climate adaptation within their recently published place-plan.
The meeting had a wide range of volunteers in attendance coming from different backgrounds and involvement within their town - including a local councillor, representative from the community trust, JedEye local news publication, Scottish Borders Council, Explore South Scotland, SOSE and Jedburgh Tourism Alliance.
SBCAN's team facilitated a session using Verture's Climate Adaptation Routemap (Community Climate Adaptation Routemap - Adaptation Scotland) for communities and the group discussed actions they were taking forward from the place-plan that could support climate resilience within Jedburgh in different ways.
The Jedburgh team decided that they would like to use the climate in place support to focus upon their plans for multi-use cycle tracks in the town - linking to the 'Getting Around' climate adaptation theme - seed funding from SBCAN may be used to provide a consultation on the construction of further multi-use cycle ways in and around the town. A future with more active travel, such as walking and wheeling, not only helps cut greenhouse gas emissions from petrol and diesel vehicles, but also provides an opportunity to build in more green spaces and fewer roads designed around private car travel.
As a next step, a sub-group of Jedburgh's place team will meet to discuss the path plans in development and see what SBCAN's pilot support could assist with in moving these plans along.
