Galashiels Town Team

SBCAN joined the Galashiels Town Team in early September for a session exploring the climate action and adaptation already reflected in the town’s Local Place Plan.

Using the Verture Community Climate Adaptation Routemap, the group looked at the Plan’s existing projects and considered how they could contribute to climate resilience, as well as identifying achievable actions and practical first steps that could be taken forward.

The discussion highlighted Project 20: Waterways from the Place Plan as an opportunity to explore further, with a particular focus on the Mill Lade. Ideas included reopening and daylighting sections of the Lade and improving water flow,

SBCAN is providing £2000 in funding to support the initial work. The team will also connect with Verture to learn from other communities taking forward similar waterways projects and share knowledge and experience with the Galasheils town team.
