Empowering Young Voices: Climate Action Training at Langlee Youth Club

On Wednesday, 28th January, and 4th February 2026, SBCAN partnered with the Langlee Youth Club and YouthBorders to deliver two Climate Action Training sessions. We worked alongside P6 children and young leaders to explore how they can champion environmental change in their own community.

From Brainstorming to Big Ideas

The sessions began with an introduction to the core concepts of climate change and action. To help the group visualize their impact, we used a Climate Action Wheel. This interactive tool invited the young people to draw and write about changes they want to see in their everyday lives.

The P6 students and young leaders produced a brilliant list of priority actions:

· Our stuff and waste:

Organizing a youth club litter pick.

Setting up a youth club "Swap Shop"

· Green Spaces:

Encouraging local wildlife by building bug hotels and bird feeders.

Planting more flowers to help bees and exploring the possibility of a beehive.

Learning to make terrariums.

· Our water:

Learning about local waterways through fishing and river exploration.

Turning Ideas into Action

We didn't just stop at a list. We discussed how to move these ideas into the real world by involving the wider youth group and voting on the most popular projects.

The momentum is already building! The week following our training, the group took part in a Bug Hotel making workshop led by Alexa Seagrave.

Who can help us?

Climate action is a team effort. We identified several local organizations that might be able to provide expertise and support to help the youth club achieve its goals:

· Greener Melrose

· Gala Waterways

· Tweed Foundation

· Tweed Forum

· Bright Green Nature

What’s Next?

Our follow-up sessions will focus on setting firm dates for these projects and inviting these local organizations in to help make the young people's vision a reality
