Eastgate: Experience the Wild Writers Festival: Exploring the Wild and Addressing Climate Challenges


With over 20 short films in our mini film festival and a packed programme of events—from inspiring talks by endurance athletes and authors to breathtaking documentaries—there’s something for everyone.

Attention climate advocates! The festival explores our connection to the environment and the challenges we face in protecting it. Highlights include:

  • Rewild (24 Jan): Ben Martynoga discusses the vital role of nature in tackling environmental challenges, in conversation with local students.

  • The Last Sunset in the West (24 Jan): A moving account of Scotland’s vanishing orcas and the urgency to preserve their habitat.

  • The Cull of the Wild (25 Jan): Hugh Warwick examines invasive species and their impact on biodiversity with humor and insight.

  • Where the Wildflowers Grow (25 Jan): Leif Bersweden celebrates the joy and importance of noticing the wild plants around us.

  • An Evening with Helen Mort (25 Jan): The acclaimed poet and environmental writer reflects on wild spaces and their protection.
