This Climate Week we are running a Green Get-Together for green groups in the Scottish Borders. The idea for the gathering has developed from conversations with community groups and discussions with the SBCAN Advisory Group earlier in the year. A key message was the need for more opportunities for people involved in community climate action to come together, share what is happening across the Borders, make connections, exchange ideas and identify opportunities for collaboration.
The intention is for this to be an informal, regular gathering, rather than a formal ‘conference’. The first event will showcase a range of organisations and community-led activity, with a particular focus on:
· What is happening across the Borders in relation to climate action.
· Sharing examples of community-led work.
· What others can learn from successful local initiatives.
· What opportunities, support and resources are available.
· Identifying opportunities for organisations and communities to collaborate.
Itinerary:
9.45 - 10.30 a.m. Networking over coffee
Talk 1 - NHS Borders
• NHS Borders will give a brief overview of the climate-related work currently happening across NHS Borders alongside introducing their new Climate and Health Toolkit. They will also focus on the relationship between climate change and health inequalities. and explore how climate-related adverse events, particularly extreme heat, can disproportionately affect some communities.
Talk 2 - Energise Galashiels
Energise Galashiels will tell us a bit about community-led climate action happening in Galashiels; what they are doing, learning and how others can get involved with a particular focus on the Channel Street project.
There will also be couple more short presentations from green, grassroots organisations in the Borders sharing their work as well as some time for networking.
Lunch will be provided for all attendees. You can let us know dietary requirements when you sign up on eventbrite.
We have a capacity of 30 for the event and attendees must sign up on eventbrite in advance.
